Probs with Mech disc

Hi,
I'm having some problems with the clark disc brakes on my claud Butler Pagan. They provide a poor performance and slow braking. It think they're Clark Quads. I've been advised to get some new pads EBC Reds. But i dont know if they'll fit my brake system. I dont want to have to remove a pad to see what type they are. my dad will be able to fit them but i dont want to make a mistake by buying the wrong type/model. Are there any other ways of enchancing my braking performance. I've tried disc brake cleaner but to no avail. Not too much techy terms - I'm quite new to this! Thanks
