Bike Storage Project
With many thanks to the TopeakCo. for the original inspiration, yesterday out of scrap on hand I built this flush-to-wall storage mount. It's advantages are its extreme cheapness, and since the rear wheel rests on the floor and wall, there's no stress anywhere on the bike when the front wheel is secured by the bolt into the top bracket. In reality, when the bike is vertical with the rear wheel resting on the floor and wall, the front wheel can be held to the wall easily with one finger.
Here's some pictures, thanks.

Yes, electrical tape. The 'pull away' pressure from the wall is so slight that the wheel isn't affected but I thought it should still have a soft surface just in case. I'd read several posts regarding hanging bikes by front or back wheels etc, but never a firm conclusion regarding possible damage to the wheels, so this came as a response to those issues.
Thanks

I'd suggest using some rubber or plastic tubing instead of electrical tape. Over time, you may find the adhesive on the tape starts to ooze out and get on your rims.

I agree that the numbers would indicate that a bike's dead weight probably wouldn't deflect a wheel, but since there was no rafter available for mounting above the area I needed to store the bike I discarded the choice immediately. Yes, you're sure right, electrical tape 'leaks' eventually so I thought I'd slip on a piece of rubber tubing over the bolt this weekend. On a sad note from Arizona now, if you don't get on the road by 6am, you're gonna suffer; it was 100F before noon today........Canada sure looks good today.....
