shimano 9 spd drive train with 10 spd cranks...

Yes I searched, but found more confusion than anything. I hope that there are some more definitive answers out there now.

I have a mix of 105 and ultegra 9spd. I would like to replace my triple crank with a double ultegra 6600 or dura ace 7800. Will this work, what will need to be replaced at a minimum to make it work?

10 speed crank should work with 9 speed, seen it done several times.

It will work with nine speed as well as 10 speed. All chains are 3/32" inside dimension between the plates.

Confirmed. I installed the DA 7800, works perfectly with my existing set-up.

Thanks!
