Its probably my fault, but my seatpost binder bolt on my track bike just snapped, probably from torquing too hard. Campy sucks!

Actually, it's pretty interesting that you can snap Campy binders. Are they steel? I've stripped out some aluminum seatpost collars (where the steel bolt threads into aluminum collar), but have a few bikes with steel Sugino seatpost bolt, and have never seen any problems with them...

There was a story going around a few years ago that Campy made their seatpost binder bolts intentionally weak so they would break if you over-torqued them and protect the frame from damage. Don't know if it's true.
I've had one Suguino binder bolt break in 20+ years and it may have been weakened by corrosion.

Wow, this is freaky! I broke my seatpost binder bolt just this morning! It was Gipiemme though, not Campy. Should we extend this thread to include all crap Italian things?!?
EDIT: It was my fault though, too much power!

How often does that happen??? I had a friend who go into a bad accident because of that. I thought it was a freak accident thing. Apparently it's more common than I thought. Any good way to test that bolt before riding?

You could just not overtorque it in the first place.

"C" is for Crying "gorrilla mechanic" after snaping the bolt.
The recommended torque for a Campagnolo binder bolt is only 3-5 ft lbs.

I guess the point is to be clear when venting is venting, as to a real/careful critique. This thread seemed more like something that would show up in the Road forum, not the mechanics forum where people usually phrase things more carefully.
