derailleur pully wheel compatibility
Hi! Can any folk offer some clarification?
I run six and seven speed road bikes using shimano derailleurs and normal width chains ie. not compatible with 8 or 9-speed... What about the pulley wheels - i am using the narrow version of wheel and i think it is meant for 7 or 8 speed. Would i be best, for smooth transmission , to canibalize an older type of 6 speed derailleeur and move the pulley wheels onto the changer? These older type of pulley wheel are about 4mm wider but the distance between the teeth of the wheel appear to be v. similar. phewwww! cheers, for any help, tim parker. |
THe answer is that the older type of pulley wheel is required when running 3/16 chains ie.non-narrow chains. EIther get an old triplex derailleur , the type that came with a mounting plate and not allen key fitting, and strip the pulley/jokey wheels out! Modern pulley wheels give awful transmission.
Tim parker replies to his own question! Guess no-one on these boards in the States uses 5-6 speed anymore! |
Tim,
well ya gotta let us read the post before we can respond, ya know? patience my friend. please post only in one forum. I closed and moved duplicate thread from out of the road cycling forum I'd suggest you check out either Branford Bikes or Third Hand They both stock vintage parts. I have both 5 cog and 6 cog setups on my classics, so yah, we do ride old stuff here. Marty |
Cheers, and by the way ie. actually my posting has been on the forums for weeks and no responses. (i mean weeks). Thought there may have been a cross-cultural misunderstanding.
Thankyou for removing the duplicate:new member! tim. |
