Can I replace the 12t on my Dura-Ace 7800 12-27 with and 11t?

I can buy an individual 11t Dura-Ace cog for $10.99.

Can this be popped on my existing D/A 7800 12-27 (replace the 12t)?
Thanks

should be able to. You might need a new lockring though. My 12T lockring was a little big and interfered with the 11T cog. If you just replace the 12 with the 11, you'll have a gap in your gears and shifting probably won't be as clean. Another option would be to take the 27 off the other end of your cassette and pop the 11 on the front giving you 11-24?. I got an 11 and changed my cassette from a 12-25 to 11-23.

I read up on sheldon's site before I did mine. https://sheldonbrown.com/k7.html

Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects

This actually makes sense for a lot of people. I only use my 12t when going down a steep hill, and often would like a higher gear in those situations. People usually don't shift into their top gears as part of a gradual gearing-up process, so its not so much a problem to have the jump from 13 to 11.

can you take the 27 off of a DA cassette? i thot it was on a carrier and i am too lazy to look it up

i am running a a custom 11-28 cassette on my 1 x 9. what i did was buy an 11-32 shimano cassette and remove the 32 and then insert a 13-tooth cog between the 12 and 14.

to do this i had to use an HG-50 cassette because it has all individual cogs (no carrier).

also, my attempt to insert a 13-tooth shimano cog into a SRAM cassette did not work because of the difference in teeth profiles on the smaller cogs, which isn't a problem with bigger cogs.

Exactly. I'm not quite strong enough (275 watts) to be running a 53/12 on the flats for a long time, but for the big descents (which is why I need the 27t going up the other way) we have out here, I really can easily push a 55 -11!

Hmm... not sure about DA. I've taken apart two cassettes to fine tune my gearing. One had three little tiny hex bolts holding it together. I think that one was ultegra quality. the other one required a dremel to cut off the end of the rivets or pins. Once the end was off, I took a thin nail and drove it out the other end. That cassette was much lower end.
