building first bike
So I'm daydreaming at work at come up with a crazy idea. How about i build my first tri bike? So I need some help. I am thinking Ti frame and being a total weight weinie. Here is my list of what i would need, what am i missing?
Frame
Fork
Brakes
Brake lever
integrated handlebar
Bar ends
Cassete
chain
Crankset w/bb
front derailer
rear derailer
saddle
stem
pedals
cables
wheels
tires
tubes
handlebar
aero bar
Any suggestions are the mentioned parts?
I want to keep it light but not the most expensive of everything i.e. spending an extra $200 to save 10 grams.
All thoughts and input are greatly appreciated.

Little bit broad of a question. Give us a rough budget. As for end-to-end buildup instructions, once you do the frame prep, install the headset, and hang the RD, there's not much to be done that doesn't work pretty much like standard maintenance. Pretty hard to mess up the order, too, as you figure out pretty quickly that you need the cranks on to adjust the FD/RD and so on. What makes buildups take too long is missing or mismatched parts, tool hunts, and rushing/screwing up the cabling. Good luck!

This looks familiar. I make build lists when I wander away from whatever I should be doing. I'm dreaming up a TT bike right now too. Don't forget your headset. Use boring bulk cables and housing. Cabling is about the least cost effective way to improve performance. Same goes for tubes.
I don't know of any books, but I do go here all the time:
Park Tools is always a nice reference
I don't know where you are located, but here in LA there are bicycle co-ops, where you can borrow tools and learn anything about bikes.

What about a seat post, and computer/hrm? You wont need a waterbottle cage if your TTs are 10 miles or less. If you want to save money go to your LBS and buy a tri-bike.

Colorado Cyclist and Excel Sports both have complete "build kits" available in several levels of Shimano and Campy components at very favorable total prices. Certainly much less than you could assemble the components for individually. They include everything but the frame and fork. They will also let you delete one or two items for credit if you already have one of the components and will let you upgrade or substitute for the cost difference.
I built up my current bike with one of these kits and I couldn't have come close to the total cost any other way.
