Disc brake, and lever compatability noob question

When I built up my Karate Monkey it was an experiment in lots of things. Nine speed drivetrain, 29 inch wheels, and disk brakes. I have found I love the 29 inch wheels, and the disk brakes. The nine speed is still up in the air. Anyway to my question. I have avid bb7 mountain disks, with their levers. I am wanting to experiment with different handlebars. I am thinking of getting a set of road calipers so I can run drop bars, and road levers. If I do this, and I switch back to flat bars, can I just use some cantilever levers to run the road disks? Will I have to switch back to mtn calipers, and v levers?
