Broken frame

I just broke the frame of my Trek 4300. The crack is on the chainstay about 3 inches from where the seat tube and chainstay meet. The break is completely through the frame. I can't believe this..I was just riding on the bike path (paved), went over a bump where a tree root has lifted the trail up a few inches (it was less of a "jump" then going down off a road curb!!) and all of the sudden I realized my rear was wobbling. To my knowledge there was no crack prior to this incident.
Anybody ever dealt with Trek in a similar situation? I couldn't find my manual but I think the bike is only covered under warranty for a year. I've had mine about 2 years. I haven't called the bike shop yet, but I doubt if they'll be able/willing to do much.

I just thought I'd vent a little bit.

peace,

Gabe

i have had the exact same happen to me only a week ago! my trek bruiser 05 got a crack in the driveside chainstay 3 inches behind the bb shell. my bike is 19 months old. i think you'l find that all trek frames are warranted for life. when i sent my bruiser back i got a brand spanking new jack 3 frame!! id say return the bike back to wherever you bought it and get them to send it to trek, i reckon youl get a new frame out of it...

I don't know about the current warranty on Treks, but a few years ago a friend of mine broke his Trek mtb frame and they replaced it under warranty. At the time, his bike was several years old, but I believe it had a lifetime frame warranty. The only way to know about yours is to check with your Trek dealer. Good luck-

The frame is warrantied for life to the original owner. It's the components that are only covered for one year.

Trek is good about their warranty, if your dealer is worth anything, you'll have a replacement frame soon.

I got my bike back today!!

It felt nice to get back on the saddle.

I'm very pleased with both the bike shop and Trek. Trek gave me new components (brakes, deraillers, shifters). I had thought that they'd just give me a new frame and then I'd put all the orginal components back on. I had just replaced the crank arms, bottom bracket, chain, and cassette so I didn't kept those. I wish now that I hadn't replaced those components last month, I coulda saved about $200.

adios

Gabe

Katxola, That's too bad - the Domane 5.2 is a good bike. My Spanish is not good. What is "circulado con plato y corona grande"? Sounds like you have "circulated with a large plate and crown".
