Extra Long 60mm Presta Valves
What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of these? It seems like they're only meant for road tubes/bikes.

advantages: they fit deep-v rims.

so in essence they will protrude on these deep profile aero rims the same amount as a regular presta valve does on a regular rim. i have seen these on regular rims and they did look extra long and goofy, hence the thread.

Also with that length they provide you with some extra rotational weight, also they are usually more expensive. There, now we have some disadvantages.

Problems with 60mm Presta tubes
I've been using presta valve tubes for over thirty years and seldom had problems with how the steel stem was attached to the tube. Now, having started to use the longer 60mm stems, I have had consistent problems with the tubes failing (sudden leakage) right at the base of the stem. The problem will occur during rides or while the bike is parked, not while the tire being inflated.
Has anyone else experienced this? I've had this happen on no-name Taiwanese tubes with threaded stems (both secured with threaded collar and without) as well as on Conti tubes with unthreaded stems. Tubes are inflated using a floor pump with universal connector or with the big Silca presta-only head, being careful not to bend or twist the stem. Holes in rims are drilled for presta.
Any ideas? Anything I'm doing wrong? (Procedure for installing tube: inflate tube with 8 strokes of frame pump, insert into tire, install bead starting opposite stem, remove some air as bead insertion approaches stem, push in stem and pull out at final bead insertion at stem, inflate tire to standard operating pressure (120 lbs)).

Is your rim tape protecting the tube from the rim? I use Velox rim tape.

I know some people that carry long stem tubes as spares. I guess when your buddy gets a flat and doesn't have a tube, it's a bit tacky if you offer him a spare and it doesn't fit his deep dish rim. Note that the person I am thinking about is a wrench at a bike shop, so he doesn't have to pay for his tubes.
