Stupid Question

I use SRAM chains on my bikes, and use the chain tool to size the chain for installation, but the power link once the chain is on.

However I must have done something wrong on sunday night when I put the bike back together after it's weekly wash, because today the power link popped off. I managed to find half of it on the trail, but the other half disappeared. Luckily I keep my chain tool and the extra links in my tool bag. So I pulled off an outside link and reinstalled my chain. However I must never have used the chain tool to put a chain back together and I did something wrong. The two links I f-ed with won't move.

What did I do? I pushed the pins in so that they looked just like every other pin. I took it apart and put it back together a couple of times, but each time with the same result, no movement. I was running late and dribbled some oil on the links and took off hoping it was a problme that would solve itself. No dice, six miles later and I'm being driven insane by a ca-chunk every couple of pedals.

Any ideas? any tips?

I think there has been discussion on here before that all you need to do is flex the chain back and forth where the stiff links are and they will loosen up.
