FSA Compact questions

Anyone ever use any of the FSA compact cranks? Roadbike Review gives them mixed reviews. https://www.roadbikereview.com/cat/dr...9_2491crx.aspx Some swear by them others at them. I've always been leary of 50/50 mixed reviews on any product. Any opinions.

Tim

i have been using the fsa k-force compact w/ megaexo bearing for the last 6mths. It is stiff as hell, looks pretty and has been very reliable, shifting smoothly.
The model down, the SLK which should be quite similar has had a myriad of problems. Mainly to do with the non-driveside crank arm coming loose. I'm not sure if it was just a batch that went wrong or all of them.
The next model down the Grossamer i have not heard any problems associated with it.
The reason i went for the k-force compact is that it is probably one of the best compact cranks along with the stronglight pulsion and good deals can be found on ebay. If i were to buy from my lbs i would just get the grossamer or the shimano r700

FWIW I used a Gossamer set on my conversion. Didn't think the $50/oz for 3-4 oz weight reduction over the carbon set was worth it. I had the L fixing bolt loosen up once with floppy crank and one legged ride 8mi back to car shortly after installation but a better approximation to installing the bolts with rated torque so far is ok. ~800 miles since then with no problems.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

I've been using an Energy compact crankset for about a year. I'm delighted with it.

I have the Gossamer. I'm perfectly happy with it.

I don't think carbon cranks are worth the money. The weight savings are just not worth the difference in cost unless your bike is already insanely expensive and light.
