Where to buy ammonia in the UK

Trying to follow the Brown method to free a stuck TTT seatpost from a nice Bates track bike. I'm trying to ship this thing, so it's pretty critical, at least to the buyer of the bike!

So, I think it's aluminium, so I need some Ammonia. Where the hell do I buy that, in England?

Is it something rare in England?
Everyplace I have lived, ammonia can be obtained in liquid form wherever household cleansers are sold. Cheap and good, even if it does stink.

"Ammonia" is the generic household term. In fact, ammonia is a gas, NH3. Dissolved in water, it's ammonium hydroxide, NH4OH, and comes in different concentrations. Besides being a household cleaner, it's also used for developing blueprints (diazo) and might be available from a blueprint supply firm, but in a more concentrated form than the household variety. It's certainly available from chemical and lab suppliers. Another reagent that dissolves aluminum but does not touch steel is sodium hydroxide, Na4OH, also known by the household name of lye. Don't know about the US or UK, but it's sold in grocery stores in Canada.

Try a large DIY store, they should have all sorts of household chemicals.

Red Devil is lye. Was going to use it in a homemade film developer once. I Don't know if they have that over there.
Ok
Nevermind, seems to have been discontinued. I doubt ammonia is going to do anything.

Hmmm. Better look in the cleaning products aisle. I don't think that in the UK, anything is sold badged explicitly as ammonia, but it might be there anyway......

Thanks

Try a DIY shop if you can't find it in a supermarket. The kind of place that sells meths and 3 in 1 should have it and it should be dead cheap. And it is called ammonia in the UK.

Thanks all! I didn't mean that ammonia wasn't sold in the UK, more that supermarkets don't sell any cleaning product that's explicity badged as ammonia. Boots it is.......
