shortening recessed break nut???

Hey everyone...

I recently bought a break (R600) for my front wheel (fixed gear) and mounted it on an older fork without a problem--so I thought. For a week I was stopping perfectly.

About a week later (now) it has become loose. I went back to tighten the nut again, but noticed that there is no more room to tighten it down.

I know I am supposed to shorten the nut, but how do I do that???

If I wanted to do that I'd stick the nut onto the end of a 5 mm Allen wrench (for grip) and buzz it against my bench grinder...however it would be a lot easier to just add a washer or two betwixt the caliper and the front of the fork crown.
