Major wheel warpage

I searched for something like this and suprisingly didn't find a post so here goes.

My rear wheel (26 mtn bike) gave out yesterday when I rode off a large lump of dirt. It warped to the point where it couldn't turn in the frame. I took it off and bashed the hell out of the high spot against the ground and got it rideable. Back home I releaved all the tension on the wheel and beat the high spot against the ground again but it was still pretty warped. I retrued the wheel and the high spot requires alot of tension to pull out anywhere near true.

Should I attempt to beat it flat some more or just chalk up this rim as a lost cause. Its not cracked or broke and it doesn't seem to have a flat spot.

Its your call. Sounds like you almost got if fixed though. I'd bash it on the ground a few more times, or better yet put it between two logs and jump on it a few times. Then tighten up the spokes and give it a ride.
