bad bearings

how dangerous is it to ride with bad bearings on your rear wheel?

Less dangerous than walking up stairs.

I wouldn't really call it 'dangerous'... it'll make your life more difficult (More friction, therefore you expend more energy moving)

It'll also end up costing you more money in the long run... It will ruin the wheel hub, and you'll need a new wheel.

They're pretty easy to replace, you should do it, or get it done. Bearings are pretty cheap, just make sure you go to a shop you trust.

The longer you wait, the more likely it will be that not only the bearings, but the cones will need to be replaced. In some cases, these are readily available, in others they can be a royal pain to find.

"Go to a shop you trust" because there are different sizes of bearings, and different grades. The cost is only marginally different for the bearings themselves, but the lower grade bearings will wear out faster. A poor shop will install the lower grade bearings. There are some threads about bearings and grades on the forums.
