Help needed selecting the right tools...

would really like to learn how to do the maintenance amd upkeep on my bike, so I've been trying to decide on what tools I need for a basic kit..

I 've decided against the various £40 tool kits often as I have many of the more general tools they contain.

The bikes I will be working on are a Giant XTC SE and a Carrera Karaken, both 2006 models.

Listed below are the tools I am considering. In each case I am looking for a decent quality tool that will last.. If anybody thinks there is a better tool for the job or if I have chosen the wrong tool, please say.

Cassette Removal Tool: Ice Toolz Cassette lockring tool for Shimano Cassette.

Crank Puller:Park Crank Wrench and Puller CWP6C

Bottom Bracket Tool.

I'm a bit stuck with this one as I am not sure what type of bottom brackets are fitted to these particular bikes. On the giant I am pretty sure its a Truvative Power Spline, but I 've no idea for the Kraken

The cranks are both marked up as Truvativ one being "Comp G" (on the Giant) and the Krakens saying "Isoflow"...From a previous thread else where it seems the Isoflow in particular is avialble in a couple of different types. As both bikes are still awaiting their first service from the LBS, I don't really want to start pulling allen bolts to peak inside...

Any suggestions as to what system is used and what BB tool is recommended would be most appriciated.

Hubs...

I can't see any brands on the Kraken hubs..the manual for the Giant lists "Formula" but doesn't give model number...I am not sure if these bikes have cup and cone hubs or sealed bearing hubs..I assume if the later I won't need any cone spanners?

Any and all help much appreciated..

Regards,

Pete
