Clicking while cranking...

Hello,

I have a quick and most likely easy question. On my last ride, there was a very noticeable clicking occurring when I generated a lot of torque while out of the saddle. It was happening on each down stroke, not just on one side. Additionally, it doesn't appear like there is any metal on metal interference from the crank shaft.

Is there an easy fix or adjustment I can make to remedy this? Any feedback for a mechanical novice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. I would hear a clicking when pushing hard going up hills. A bike mechanic held the bike upright, put his foot on one pedal on one side and pushed down with his foot. You could hear a very noticable click. I was a bad bottom bracket. It was replaced and the problem stopped.
Check your pedals also.
