A great $15 bike maintenance stand!

I just bought a neat portable bike stand for $15 from Bike Nashbar. It is called a Flash Stand. It listed for $35 something, but is on sale. This device enables you to get the rear wheel up 2-5" (it's adjustable), so you can spin it and oil the chain, adjust the power train, rear brakes etc. Before I got this, I used to have to lift my bike onto a makeshift wood holder mounted on my garage wall. This is alot easier. It has two legs, and a rubber bushing support that fits under the crank housing (or whatever you call it). Then there's a coated hooked arm that fits around the downtube to stabilize the bike. It works great. You can get your bike on it in about 15 seconds. This is made by Topeak.com, and all of the steel components are very well machined and have close tolerances. It comes in its own cloth carrying bag with the instructions printed right on the bag. Folded up, isn't more than 8 inches long, and probably weighs less than 2 pounds total. The directions say the bike shouldn't weigh more than 30 pounds. My Fuji Touring is 36 pounds, and the stand doesn't seem to have any trouble supporting it.

I like my flash stand but I broke it today. The black piece that goes under the bottom bracket is plastic and it broke when I was working a seat post down into the seat tube. However,I like it so much that I'm taking advantage of this sale. Buying two. One to leave at the office and one to leave at home.
