When I was racing dirt motorcycles I used to safety wire the spokes where they crossed but that was mostly to keep them from flinging out in case of breakage.
Spokes don't stretch, that is to say, that the measly 110kg tension on a spoke isn't enough to stretch it. Really thin spokes like 1.8-1.5-1.8 may see a miniscule amount during the stress relieving portion of the build, but what breaks spokes isn't stretch, it's fatigue.

The only spokes I've had fail were on rims that weren't tensioned properly. Once I learned to tension my wheels I stopped having trouble.
