Chain "jumping"

This is an odd problem, but when I'm riding on my TT bike (Felt B2 with DA 10 Rear derailer and shifters, Ultegra 10 sp chain) the chain seems to skip every 30 seconds or so. It's not accountable to every pedal stroke or anything, it just seems like it seems to jump a bit up (going to a higher gear). I'm pretty sure it is not a simple minor RD adjustment because even when I use the friction setting of the shifters, and I can get it pefectly in the gear, it still happens. Could it be something like the cranks are loose, or the RD hanger is bent, or a bent axle?

I'm sorry if this didn't make sense, but it feels like im loosing a bit of power whenever this happens.

Sounds like a link in the chain is the culprit. Turn the cranks backwards and watch the jockey wheels in the RD for that link. Good Luck!!

Same thing happned to me, on my garage-sale beater bike. Turned out that the chain had a spot on it where it would not flex, and would drive the rear derailleur bananas when it hit that spot. Happened every few seconds or so. Some WD-40 fixed the problem.

Well, I figured out the problem. It appears that when my LBS installed my new chain, (only because I lost my chain tool) they didn't push the reinfocement pin all the way flush with the outer link and it would cause it to bump on something. I pushed it in a bit farther and the problem seems to have gone away. Thanks for all the help.

I bumped this thread becuase I just so happen to share the Op's problem. The chain keeps skipping on my new bike, and before I curse my own ineptitude, I turn to my beloved bikeforums for advice.

Using a sharpie, I identified the link that gets stuck in the deraileur. Should I oil it? Or are more drastic measures needed (i.e. Buying a new chain)?

Lend me your sage advise, o mechanical ones.:)
