Where to purchase ferrules

I purchased some break and derailleur cable and housing. I thought the housing would come with some ferrules for the ends. It did not. Does anyone have a good source for these? Does the LBS usually carry these? I am not talking about the crimp cable ends but the housing ends.

You could do a google search...

If your LBS doesn't carry them then you probably should look into a new LBS. Mine just gives me a handful of these and other incidental parts (bolts, crimp caps, etc) for free if I need them.

Nashbar will sell you a jar of 100 of them for $8 or so. But my LBS will give me a handful for free or a few cents. I just use the brake-cable ones for brakes + derailers, since they're larger and fit everything :)

You can get them at Bike Tools Etc. The 4mm ones are for derailer cables and the 5mm ones are for brakes. The CNC ones are veeery nice but the other ones are just fine. While there, order some cable ends too.

the cool, little lbs will give me a few if i need them. The big, corporate one will charge me, even if i'm buying other stuff. You could also try loosescrews.com if you want to order a bunch.

I salvage the ones from old housing. I heat them a little with a butane lighter to soften the plastic and pull them off. When I dress the ends of the new housing I add a small chamfer to fit the old ferrules on, kind of get them started, then heat them and push them on the rest of the way. I have not purchased ferrules in years.
