another hub clicking noise thread

i tried a search but i haven't really found anything specific.

recently my rear hub started making a clicking/ticking noise distinct from the freewheel clicking. i seem to get about three or four irregular clicks per revolution.

the reason i couldn't find anything on the search is that for most people this stops when the wheel is unloaded, but it still clicks if the wheel is lifted when i turn the cranks, or when i spin it by hand.

my setup is:
old campagnolo hub [probably cup and cone, not sure]
old campagnolo chorus derailleur [non-index]
sachs 12-21 7 speed freewheel
sram pc48 chain

anyone got any ideas?

I have a similar problem. My hubs are just generally noisy sounding. I can't describe the noises very well, but it sounds like a lot of friction. It's not loud enough to notice it when I ride, but I could hear it when I had my bike hung up in the cheap bastard stand (shoelaced tied to the rafters and my frame) to readjust the derailers. Any ideas?

I don't claim to know a lot about this, but I've heard that clicking/ticking noises in your hub can be caused by a cracked bearing. Can you hear it when you're riding?
