Black shavings on non drive side of fsa
 

I am having black shavings occur on the non drive side of my FSA SLK crank. I pulled off the 1st one after it got about 1/4 inch long and another has started. The crank has about 1500 miles on it. Is this normal break in or do I have a problem?

They are molded carbon so they should not have any "shavings" unless there was a defect in the mold/a problem from the factory...I say they are defective, take 'em back. (Just to be sure: you have not been resting the bike (cranks) against any objects that can begin a rip in the arms, have you? Crashes, swipes...

You need to be a bit more descriptive than just black shavings.

One long solid shaving slowly develops from the crank where it is turning inside the the race over the outboard bearing. It is if it is slowly shaving the carbon as the cranks are turned.

Something is dreadfully wrong, either with the crank arm or how it was installed on the bottom bracket bearing cup. There should NEVER be shavings like you describe and the crank is, or very soon will be, structurally damaged.

Go see the LBS who installed the crank or re-read the installation directions if you did it yourself. Fix it NOW.
