why is it in black color rather red color? what is the difference between pro and the higher priced elite pro workstand?

masiman 09-30-06 11:06 PM

Someone said the black is an older model, 2004 or something.

The elite has a different clamp.

The Pro is a very nice stand for any home user.

I think it is a discontinued model as it is listed in Ultimate's website.

I dont see a big difference in between the discontinued Pro-compact model vs the BRS-80R model except the price difference and color.

The 80R has the quick release ratcheting system that the Pro-elite clamp has.

The discontinued pro model does not. The model that REI has is just a simple turn knob to tighten clamp mechanism. Simliar to what the spin doctor g3 offers.

To operate the pro elite, you just push, and turn a couple of times to tighten. To release, just turn it counter clockwise to loosen it a little and push the quick release and it will pop right open. Real fast and easy operation.

thanks djtrackie, good info. I think I will lean over to the latest technology either the 80R or the pro elite.

Nice piece of equipment. Sturdier and better balanced than I initially imagined.

That REI deal was great. This thing makes maintenance so much easier. I no longer need to hunch down and fiddle with the bike while making sure I don't tip it off the kickstand. I don't miss the quick-release bracket. After all, I'm only working on my own bike, not dozens in a bike shop.

Picked up my new Ultimate stand yesterday, much sturdier than I expected, and a very well thought out design. Recommended!

I just wish I had spotted the additional 20% discount before I placed my order. O well
