Chain slipping

Hi I'm new here and new to MTB. I just bought a Stump Jumper Expert. It was a trial bike so yes it was used and abused. My first problem is that the chain slips. It's been adjusted a couple of times by the shop and it still does it. I have found that it only happens when I am riding in rought terrain. Things like a washboard road make it happen alot. It does it on the two smaller chain rings, I have not had it happen on the large chain ring. The rear deraiuere? is XTR. Any ideas???

sounds like the chain is too long or the some of the cogs are starting to wear out in the back.
