Measuring B/B's
Hi Guys,
I've had a Ti B/B knocking around in my toolbox for years, and I've never used it...go figure! I was wondering how I could go about measuring it to see if it would fit either my Cross Bike (which I believe needs an Italian style B/B) or my new Kona. It's quite old (It came free with a Sampson Crankset that I bought in Florida on holiday in 1995) and is missing the right hand side lock ring...will this cause me significant problems? As always, thanks for any advice... Rich :) |
Rich you measure the length with a vernier caliper, from end to end of the axle, but as far as the missing rhs ring go's Hmmm, short answer is :Idunno.......

Cheers Buddy...
If that's the case it looks about 124mm..does that sounds about right? Rich  |
it surely does chap !!

Are you trying to measure the spindle bearing face width to see if it's Italian or English or trying to determine the length for correct chain line?
Are you wanting to measure the bb cup diameter or the thread pitch? Is you BB shell 68mm wide (English) or 70mm wide (Italian)? The Italian BBs also has a slighty bigger inside diameter and are right hand threaded, not left hand threaded (reverse) as English and french BBs are, (the vast majority). |
