I cannot believe there is a 3 page thread about cutting cables.

Well, that's because people aren't using the right tools for the job. Then debating it, geesh. It's like a caveman arguing with a 5-star chef on the cleanest way to cook eggs. Caveman complains that his eggs are sticking to hot-rocks, the yolk always breaks when he's trying to flip it, and the ashes mess up the flavour. Chef presents stainless-steel cookware and gas-stoves. Caveman complains about how the eggs still stick to the rocks when he's heating them up in the stainless pan over the gas-stove....

To be honest, spend the money to get the right tool for the job. We don't have a problem buying $600 wheelsets, Campy Record parts, but we won't spring $20 for the right tool. Ironic isn't it?

I didn't realize there had been a post here in a while.

I ended up just getting the cable cutters, easy as pie to just clip right through. Ended up having to replace a couple of pieces of housing as well while I was at it, so glad to have them now. For the frustration of trying another way I am glad to have spent the right amount on the right method.
