Road/MTB component compatability
I am building a new commuter up from the parts bin on a KONA MTB frame. I have a complete Deore DX 8sp drivetrain that I would like to use. The crank I have is a Truvativ 53-39 from a roadie that is now a leftover since I converted to a compact.
Are there issues with getting the Deore left shifter to work on a double road crank?
The shifters are integrated with the brake levers and I was planning on changing to V brakes from the canti setup the bike came with. My guess is that won't work right without a lever change as well? I plan on staying with flat bars.
btw...the rear wheel going into this is the first wheel build that I've ever tried! 3X driveside and 2X left side. It's a thing of beauty.

You may have clearance issues trying to put such large chainrings on a MTB frame. Might need to use an extra long bottom bracket and settle for strange chainline.

Sounds like a lot of trouble...what's the point?

The point about the wheel build, was the spokes on the nondrive side where too short when I spoked it up in a 3X so I took a cross out and now they work fine.
I'll check that chainline before I order the BB. If necessary I can put in a triple and take the small one off.
Thank you for the reply!
