Bad Bearings, Bad chain? - help please

Hey, I am fourteen and have an alright bike. First problem is that when I am pedalling the chain, maybe the cogs(?) make an annoying noise. Not sure if lube would sort this out but I cannot get to any at the moment anyway. Second problem - when I am standing to pedal there are ticking noises while I am pedalling. One day when I pedalled while standing there was a loud click or cracking noise, is this something to do with my bearings?

Please describe the "annoying noise".

How old is your bike?

rosie08 12-22-06 02:59 PM

Four months old and the noise is, im not sure I have not been out on my bike in a while its like a rubbing maybe or a clicking?

This (lube) would be a good place to start.

Is the noise happening only when you pedal, or when you coast also? There may be an issue with your pedals.

Only when I am pedalling, standing up (not coasting), there is no sound when i am pedalling sitting down.

Is it a geared bike? Why not tell us the model?

rosie08 12-22-06 03:08 PM

You won't be able to find it, they only sell it at Halfords :( it has 21 gears and it's a mountain bike with shimano gears.

Please lube the chain and the come back.

Sounds like it could be in need of a simple derailleur adjustment. Why not take it to your local bike shop for a check up?

rosie08 12-23-06 03:51 AM

Pretty sure it's not the derailleur as I have had that readjusted before so I know the sound it makes, but yeah I will take it for a check-up (not to Halfords!!!) but to the Edinburgh bike shop, the best one. Anyway thanks for your help anyone that replied.
