Shifter Mount Question
I’m stuck on upgrading an older 80’s touring frame with a STI shifter. This nishiki cresta has a mount that I’m not familiar with, just one braze-on on the top of the downtube. The braze-on is barely visible on the pictures below. I think it’s for an older suntour shifter, I think it was the shifter that would auto trim the front derailleur. I can’t figure out how to mount the housing stop. Is there an easy solution that’s escaping me?

Sine that looks to me like a standard size steel down tube, try Loose Screws or Harris Cyclery for a clamp on cable stop.

I was thinking about one of those but do they hold well. I guess I'm concerned about one slipping and degrading the shifting.

Thanks.

The purpose of the piece on the top of the downtube is to stop the clamp-on shifters sliding down.

The stops intended to keep band-on shifters from slipping were much thinner and brazed on under the downtube, not on top. |
I have the same exact problem currently. Let me know if you find anything, otherwise I'm just trying to find a nice cap for the mount and going to use a band on the downtube in front of the shifter boss.

Same bike, same problem. I haven't been able to locate the SunTour mount. I'm considering trying to make my own bracket using a set of clamp on bosses and some aluminum plate, but I want something that looks nice. If it doesn't work out, I think I'll mount the bosses higher up the tube (they'll just be holding adjuster barrels, I'm using bar-end shifters) and try to come up with some utilitarian purpose for the single bolt. Perhaps it will be a good place for the pepper spray or a side-throw light?
seely/Cynikal--How do you like your Crestas? Mine hasn't been built up yet and I'm getting excited--I'm trying to have mine touring-ready by May 19! |
