Clamp-on Front D hanger on a carbon frame?
I use a cyclocross crankset on my Scott and it currently has a braze on mount.
Is it taboo to put a clamp-on front derailleur hanger on a carbon bike? I just can't get the front d as low as I like right now... |
You currently have a braze-on mount on a carbon tube? That's pretty interesting.
|
I would guess that its not actually brazed on. The "braze-on" mount on my Giant TCR frame is a piece of plastic that's screwed into the carbon fiber frame.

Do any carbon bikes use a clamp on? |
There is probably no reason why it wouldn't work. However, you could void your warranty if your frame cracks.
I think that Look's Carbon frames use clamp-on derailleurs. |

Do any carbon bikes use a clamp on? Indeed some Look frames (555, 585 among others) are designed for clamp-on. Those that have shaped tubes (595, 486) have braze-ons. |
I just purchased a new look frame and it is a clamp on type. It wasn't a cheap frame, and I think look knows what they are doing.
Hope this helps! |
I've never seen a CF bike with a clamp-on. I've assumed that it is not a good idea. Dunno

Didn't DrPete just have a major issue recently, with a clamp-on FD on his Pinarello F4:13? I think it cracked the clearcoat, but the verdict was that the frame was okay. Might do a search for that thread, it was within the last month or so, in Road Cycling, I think.
