What would seperate the tire from the bead?

Yes, they are Vittoria tires, made in Thailand... These tires actually. So, they seem like a hit or miss quantity, but in any event, they definitely missed in this case, going ~25mph and at 115psi. As for the whole user error angle, I still don't understand how my mtb tires and the contis wouldn't be showing the same symptoms...

I don't think the problem lies with you... And you said it was a rear tire. All my sidewall failures were rear tires (thankfully). I see a pattern forming.

It could've been lube, but not on my end. Front tire was showing the same symptoms, but it hadn't degraded as much. I wonder if something was spilled in transit, or maybe just bad rubber. In any event, thanks everyone!
