front derailleur woes...
ok i guess my question has two parts:
1) im having issues getting my shifters and front derailleur dialed in. im trying to mate campy record ergopowers (2006 model, 10spd but not the new 'quick shift' ones) with a shimano ultegra front derailleur (fd 6600). ive set up campy brifters once before, but not with shimano, so i dont know if this is my problem. but basically it seems like i have to get the cable so taut as to be on the verge of bypassing the lower limit screw, simply in order to get the first 'click' of the brifter to actually move the derailleur. otherwise it just pulls on the cable without making the derailleur go anywhere. we i click the second time, it moves, but all of the trimming clicks are off, so i cant shift through the whole of my cassette without chain rub. any suggestions?
2) in the course of struggling with the cable, trying to get it tight enough, tightening and loosening over and over.... i over-tightened the derailleur's cable bolt and the threads on the derailleur are now stripped out. please tell me there is a solution to this bonehead move that doesnt involve purchasing a new front derailleur?!? ahhh i feel like an idiot.

there shouldn't be any problem with compatibility, have you checked to see if your chain or any other parts of the drivetrain are worn and need replacing?

Probably not an easy solution to the cable bolt. I suppose you could get a longer bolt and a nut, but I'm not sure what the clearances are. Otherwise, you're looking at tapping or a helicoil.

I would probably tap the hole for a slightly larger bolt.
Be sure the shift tab is all of the way down before attaching the cable. The cable should have only enough tension to take the slack out.
With my 10-speed Campy I find the some trimming is necessary. With my 9-speed Dura-Ace double no trimming needed.

1) +1 on MontyBiker's post - i'd concentrate more on cables though. If you're going to the expense and hassle of installing a new derailleur, then dump the old shift cable and housing for a nice, shiny new one, thus instantly eliminating a major source of shifting grief from the equation. Clean up the plastic cable router under the bottom bracket shell as well, and maybe apply a little grease here.

its a whole brand new everything. new derailleur cables chain and entirely new drivetrain.
maybe i dont have the cable seated correctly in the bolt? err... im pretty sure i do, but im at a loss otherwise. the first trim 'click' IS supposed to do something though... right?
