Chain problems
 

I bought a cheapie mountain bike from Dicks to leave outside while im at school. its nice enough to get me around and huck it off of some stuff...but anyhoo, the chain is rusting like crazy already and while it gets rusty, if i peddle with any kind of force it hops and skips real hard etc.
my two questions are,
-is there a cheap low maintenance way,( meaning not constant every day doing) to keep my chain from getting so nasty...is there one i can buy that is more weather resistant.
-is my chain skipping and hopping because its rusty? or do i just have something adjusted wrong because the last time i adjusted my derailurs and lubed the chain it hardly ever did it...but now it is almost constant.

It sounds like a good, thick, durable lubricant is necessary for your application. You might want to try Phil Wood's Tenacious Oil. It's probably one of the thicker, stickiest oils for bikes, see http://www.philwood.com/Price%20List/P17.pdf It may be available at LBSs in your area.

Although it is a great lubricant, it will attract dirt and goo. However, if a lubricated and protected chain is your priority, this is probably the ticket.

How about just regular automotive engine oil and a trigger oiler? Little to lose and won't cost much.
