Front wheel hub and spoke question
I popped a spoke on my old Marin Commuter/MTB. The head broke off the nipple.
The question is, should I just go ahead and respoke the whole wheel, since the other nipples are also likely to be corroded/fatigued? Or can I get by just replacing the spoke(s) as they break. The base of the nipple is actually to the right in the picture.
Also, the hub is feeling a little notchy and should be inspected and repacked - possibly the bearing surfaces are damaged. But I don't understand how this hub is dissasembled? It had a red "Phil" on it that got buffed off when removing surface corrosion - would it be a Phil Wood with cartridge bearings?
Finally, the [26"] rim says RM-20 - but the manufacturer's label is faded out. Would these be Araya, or something else?

If the wheel is old, respoke it to be safe. You can measure the rim to enter into a spoke calc, but maybe you'll be lucky and someone on here will recognize the rim. If you suspect the hub is shot, a replacement wheel would be more economical, but if it just needs to be repacked the respoke will work fine.

As for replacing the wheel, I might replace the rim and spokes but the hub is a gem. Once fixed you really can't do better. With new bearings, it'll last 20 years or more.
