It is impossible to install a bottom bracket backwards as the threads are reversed on one side.

Sealed, or unsealed bottom bracket?

If it is a servicable BB with separate cups, axle and bearings, it's possible to fit the axle the wrong way round.

A sealed BB should only thread from one side (using reasonable force ) This is commonly from the drive (right) side of the frame, with a left handed thread. There are exceptions to this, for example "Italian threaded" bottom brackets. Check www.sheldonbrown.com for details.
