Click-Click; Click-Click...
 

...is what I've been listening to recently while riding. Things are quiet when I am warming up and cooling down - light spinning. When I start to gear up, the click-click business begins. Nothing happens when I put my bike in my stand and shift through the gears, so I am thinking that the derailleurs are not the problem. My wheels are true, and I have checked the spokes (one by one) - they all appear to be intact. My chain is about 8 weeks old, and is clean and lubed. No problems were noted by my LBS with the bottom bracket or anything else during a recent tuneup. Any thoughts/ideas on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does it happen when you're coasting? ...when you're on/off the saddle? Does the clicking frequency match your wheels or your cadence? These creaks can come from so many places, it's hard to diagnose: stem, headset, saddle rails, seatpost, pedals, shoelaces (doh!)...

Badfishgood / SEAcarlessTTLE - the clicking matches up with my pedaling cadence when I am pushing higher gears or when climbing. Nothing when I'm coasting or when in lower gears. Thanks.

Ooo, I gave up on a similar clicking mystery on my bike a while ago. Are your pedals in good shape (packed w/ grease), pedal threads greased and properly torqued into those cranks? How about crank and chainring bolts? Definitely check your stem and stem faceplate bolts, too. Dry or loose contacts can click, creak, pop, etc.

If you can put your bike in a trainer in a quiet environment, you might be able to concentrate on listening and localizing the sound without risking running into parked cars, trees, curbs, etc., which is probably what I would do if I stuck my ear down by my head tube.

SEAcarlessTTLE - I'll pursue the pedal angle - I have Look Keo's that have been on the bike for 9 months. I'll have to figure out the stem and stem faceplate bolts as well. I checked crank and chainring bolts - they appear to be tight and intact (no movement). Thanks for your advice on this.
