threadless conversion headset stuck?
 

Hello,

I bought a Ti bike with a 1" headset that was originally threaded. The guy I bought it from told me that he converted it to threadless and it came with a campy headset, im not sure if its part of the conversion or a regular threadless headset put on afterwords. Anyways, the race in the bottom got jacked up trying to switch forks so I mean to replace it with a Cane Creek 1" threadless but ill be damned If I can get the old one off. any help would really be appreciated.

How are you trying to remove it?
You can make a tool just like the Park tool with a piece of copper pipe. It works great

im fairly green at all this so mock me if you need to. :)

the online guide I was viewing basically said to get a wrench around it and twist it a little and would come off. It really feels frozen to me and so it occurred to me that perhaps I didn't understand the mechanics of it but it looks just like they are compressed onto the head tube. thanks, I really appreciate it as I was hoping to get out this weekend.

pretty much you put that in the head tube, and hit the cups out

Or in a pinch you can use a punch. Just be judicious and keep moving it around the circle after each tap with the hammer. I've seen where people have used a flathead screwdriver, too, but don't. You can always tell from the dents in the race and I'd bet on the inside of the headtube, too.

the next question would be how do compress the new ones in when I get these out. Seems like I could use a large framing vice with some wood blocks. I have some copper that may work as well, I cant flair the sides but I can at least its round. I may take it in, I would hate to jack up the head tube.
