Aluminium fork on a steel frame?
 

I recently had an altercation with a car, and its left me needing a new fork. I've got a (what I can only assume is) a cheap CroMoly steel frame. My question is this: Would there be any issue with fitting an aluminium fork on a steel frame? If it matters, I'm set up for a threaded steerer.

If anyone has a line on affordable steel forks with threaded steerers that isn't Ebay, that'd be nice too.

I dont see any problems, but it may give you a bit more buzz from the road than a croMo fork would. The aluminum will most likely be lighter too.

Tange makes 1" threaded forks for about $40. I assume you're talking 700c. I think they sell through qbp so you could get them anywhere.

yeah i thought i'd be clever and stick a pair of bladed aluminum forks on my steel frame then eneded up reverting 'cos of the difference in feel from the front end to the rear. it got annoying, felt disjointed, like the bike couldn't decide to be stiff or giving over speed bumps and obstacles. i stuck the original steel forks back on and breathed a sigh of relief.

I expect there were significant differences in rake, and possibly dropout to crown race length between the two forks They would explain the differences you felt more than the materials they were made of.
