shimano 105 front derailleur adjustments
I have a 2005 Specialized Sequoia Elite with a house brand triple crank. LBS upgraded shifters to Ultegra and replaced bb to solve chain throwing problem (under warranty)--very responsive service.
The new bb puts my chain line at 42-43mm. It worked well--shifts smooth and easy trhough all three rings with no throw, but the trim only worked for the middle chainring--where it realy wasnt necessary. I wanted the trim to work on the big ring--so I reinstalled the cable and adjusted the settings, but I had to increase the cable tension significantly to get trim on the big ring. With this set up, the trim is a very definite click--which I like, but the shifting effort required is greater, and I worry about wearing out my shifter--(I think this is what happened before). I have readjusted several times, and I just cant seem to get it in the "zone" it either makes the downshifting generally not as reliable--sometimes shifts from biggest to smallest when I wanted to just go to middle, and sometimes wont even shift to the small ring. Incidentally, I installed the cable over the "hump" as instructed in the Shimano tech pub.
Any suggestions or tips? Or should I just go back to the original low tension set up?
P.S. I noticed that the teeth on the middle ring in the down stroke region are a little thinner (viewed from the side) compared to the other teeth--should I be concerned?
Thanks for any input!
