Yearly Maintance

I am jsut now getting back into riding this season, yea I know its fairly late to be getting started. I was wondering what are some things I can do to my and wife bike for a tune-up for the new season (at least for me).

I was thinking of doing the following things:
-inspect rims for trueness
-inspect tires and tube (seperate and put back together)
-inspect brake pads and replace as needed
-inspect brake lines and mechanical operation
-inspect shifters and shift lines
-inspect handle bar alignment and hand wraps
-inspect chain and cogs .. degrease and relube
-inspect seat and seat post
-clean the entire blike with soap and water, give a decent wax on the frame

Not sure if I missed anything or what really to keep an eye out for besides the obvious problems, tire rot/wear, worn cable housing, etc

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, hopefully I didn't bring up something thats beating a dead horse.

Excellent list. The only change I would make is don't bother just inspecting brake and shift cables - wipe and then lubricate them with a high quality oil, chain lube, etc. Drip a bit of oil into any housing before inserting the cable. If cables have frayed ends and cannot be cut without being too short then replace them. I have found grease is too thick for modern lined cable housing.
