Are threadless headset caps interchangeable?

I have a frameset with all the (threadless) headset parts including star nut, in place, but no cap.

So I was thinking on buying the cap separately. Would that work?

EDIT: notice I wrote "cap", not "cup".

Yes, they are interchangeable, but they come different sizes depending on the steerer diameter. Common sizes are 1" and 1 1/8".
