Cane Creek S-2 or S-3. Much difference?

Nashbar has the S-2 for $19.95 and I have a free shipping coupon. The S-3 is more. Is it worth it? My crosscheck already weighs more than a pig, so weight is not much of an issue.

Does the S-2 work with ordinary spacers? Or does it need the special interlocking ones?

I have the S2 with regular spacers. (Spacers on top, I have stem as far down as it can go)

I'm not sure but I expect the S2 has retainer held individual balls and the S3 has cartridge bearings. Caridge bearings are much better. Check to see if this is the difference.

I have the S2, and it does have cartridge bearings. It works just fine. The handlebars turn.
