New Bike Frame
I am considering a building a new single speed and am looking for a frame/fork that meets these 'wants' mostly because I have a bunch of parts looking for a home:
1. Steel because there just is no substitute 2. Capable of handling 26" wheels and 135mm rear spacing 3. Somewhere in the 54 to 56cm range 4. Theaded steerer tube 4. Drop outs not an issue, I have an White Industries ENO that I want to use I know Rivendell makes the Atlantis that fits this bill, is there anyone else?? Thanks Tad |
You might look at the Surley site. They're "1 x 1" model is basically a steel mtb (26" wheels, 135mm dropout spacing) frame optimized for singlespeeding. Also, the Surley Long Haul Trucker is somewhat similar to the Atlantis you mention, but not as "nice." MUCH cheaper, though. Long Haul Trucker sizes through 54cm use 26" wheels, larger sizes take 700c's. The LHT has 135mm dropout spacing-

Well biked has some good thoughts although the Surlys come with threadless steerers. Also, if you are trying to use your same parts, most new bikes have 1 1/8" headsets. One other nice thing about steel is that you can respace the rear triangle for 135mm spacing without compromising the frame. Happy shopping!:)

Yeah I am pretty familiar with Surly, I have a 54cm LHT that I use for touring and it is a sweet bike. for this one though I would like to go a 55 or 56cm frame, and the reason for the threaded is steerer is this is a replacement for my current commuter that has seen better days, but I love my Nitto Technomic Stem and bar combination. Beside that finding nice threadless stems in polished silver rather than black is a bit tough.
