Understanding some basic things

I have some novice questions that i would like some help with.

Ive noticed that when it comes to buying chainsets, some of them say, for example, that they are ten speed. What about a chain set can be 10 speed? The example i was looking at only has 2 cogs, what am i missing here!

Im pretty sure ive seen other parts described in the same way which i couldnt understand.

Thanks

It is for use with a 10 speed rear cogset. Chains come in different widths depending on the amount of gears in the back. A chain designed for a 10 speed rear will be narrower than one for an 8 speed, for example, so the front chainring will be narrower and designed differently to fit that chain.
