Truing wheels with carbon fiber spokes
I have a set of Spinergy Xaero Lite wheels on a bike I bought used. Last week, I hit a deep hole at speed and knocked my wheel out of true. Not knowing how the PBO spokes worked, I tried to true the wheel by grabbing the nipples with an ordinary wrench. I got my wheel trued pretty well, but stripped the splines on a few. I've ordered some new spokes (along with proper tools) which should arrive next week.
Since the spokes should have been adjusted from the inside rather than from the outside, do I need to release tension on all the spokes I touched? I'm pretty sure some of my spokes turned while I was trying to true them and I'm not sure if I have a dangerous condition or not (I weigh 140# if that matters).
I am not a wheel builder, so I do everything by feel and how things look using a run of the mill truing stand so I'd like to avoid totally rebuilding the thing. Or should I really take this into a shop rather than do the wrong thing and screw my wheel up?
