Presta valve broke

I went out to ride this morning and pumped up my tires as usual. I unscrewed the valve and put the pump on and gave it two pumps to get my 100psi I usually run. Removed the pump as usual and the little needle is gone. It is holding air just the needle is inside my pump. The tube is maybe has 1500 miles and 8 months old. Is this common for the needles to break? I just replaced the tube and went riding.

They're fragile suckers. I did it once because I forgot to flip the lever on my pump before removing it, then once broke it because I wasn't holding my handpump firmly. You could just ride this one until it loses pressure, but I'd just replace the tube because it's more likely to flat now.

This post reminds me of a question I wanted to ask. I have presta valved tubes, and when I'm working on my bike on a stand, and I spin the tires (either front or back), I hear something rolling around inside the tire. What could it be? They hold air very well.

Is this with the valves screwed back in or loose? If they're loose it'll drive you crazy

You got 8 months out of a tube? I haven't done that in a long while.

In your tire or your wheel? If you have double wall wheels there might be a spoke nipple or drill chips between the walls of your wheel.
