Cassette spacer dimensions needed
To make a long story short I trashed the rear wheel on my hybrid and got a new wheelset cheap. The cassette(7 speed) on the old wheel is still ok, so i'd like to use it, but the freehub on the new wheel is for 8/9 speed cassettes. I know this can be solved with a 4.5mm spacer, thanks Sheldon for your magnifient page, but a bunch of calls to all the shops nearby yeilded no such part and quite a bit of confusion as to what it even was I wanted(don't get me started on these shop's professionalism). Edit: I forgot to say it's shimano stuff.
Fortunately I work at a place that has a pretty good setup for machining metal so I can make one for myself. I haven't got the wheels yet so I can't measure them, and no cassette tool yet either, but to speed up the process of getting said part made I thought I'd consult the ever-knowledgable crowd here and see if anyone will tell me what inner and outer diameter said spacer should be so I can get cracking first thing tomorrow.
Edit: fixed a bit of the spelling

I'll just get the dudes at work to make me one, they already make and maintain moulds for injection moulding machines(plastic) so a spacer should be well within their capabilities :-)

I measured one of these spacers in my parts box and the ID was 1.372" or almost exactly what Sheldon reported as 1-3/8". The OD, as he said, is not critical but mine measures 1.500"
The thickness measured 4.44mm (0.175") so the nominal 4.50 mm (0.177") should be fine

Thanks all for the help, got the new wheels on the bike w/ the old cassette, the spacer I had made at work was perfect. Only problem now is that I've been riding my new fixed gear while the hybrid was out of commission and now it feels like a supertanker with pedals... Guess I'll have to start saving for a new frame :-P
