Nobody ever heard of that. Especially the people that made them and posted the pictures.

apparently, the first production models will be released later in the year....according to their website.

also the video makes the idea pretty plausible.

Strange that on the page for the product, if you watch the morph from MTB to snowbike thingee, the bike does not have a rear disc brake rotor on the regular wheel, but has one one the snowmobile wheel.

I'm wondering about the gears, from the FAQ:
The Ktrak comes with 6-speed cassette of gears with the same spacing as an 8- or 9-speed cassette.
Does this mean you need special shifters as well? A wider chain? Chainrings?

Or does it mean that the cassette has either 8 or 9-speed spacing (but not both, 'cuz they're different) but is just narrower, so only with space for six sprockets? Probably the latter option.

That was in Popular Science last year, I think. Seems like a cool idea for folks who live where snow stays on the ground for more than one day.

I wonder if it's good for uphill, too...

Well... On flat ground, the force required to go up loose sand is roughly the equivalent of the force required to go up a ~15-20% grade. Since I figure snow would be similar, it'd probably be like climbing an average of a 30% grade on your bike, assuming a 10-15% grade and that snow behaves like loose sand. Helluva workout...

Yeah, it looks like it's good for going downhill. Maybe because of the ski in the front. Skis for snowy downhills, pshhh.

I wonder though, can one build a rear wheel like that?

I have a spare rear wheel sitting around for my road bike. What i probably need are special tires that a flexible track belt can attach to. Then attach a smaller wheel to the back with bars via hub. I don't know. The video sure looks fun!

Yea I was thinking it would be easier to just get tires with huge knobbies...now the front ski seems a bit harder to make lol
